The Engadin Valley, nestled high in the Swiss Alps, transforms into a breathtaking spectacle each autumn. As summer fades, the golden larch forests ignite the landscape with warm hues of amber, orange, and deep gold, contrasting beautifully with the crystal-blue lakes and snow-dusted mountain peaks. The crisp, dry air and the gentle light of the lower sun give every scene a soft, cinematic glow that photographers dream of capturing.

In the early mornings, thin veils of mist rise from the lakes of Sils and Silvaplana, creating a mystical atmosphere where reflections of mountains and trees seem almost unreal. The afternoons bring clarity and vibrant color, perfect for wide landscape shots, while sunsets paint the sky over the Bernina Range in shades of rose and violet.

What makes the Engadin especially appealing to photographers in autumn is its combination of untouched nature, changing light, and tranquil stillness. The region’s vast open spaces and high-altitude scenery offer countless perspectives — from panoramic mountain views to intimate details of frost-kissed leaves. It’s a season of pure harmony, where time seems to pause, and every frame becomes a quiet celebration of nature’s artistry. Teufelsberg, rising above the Grunewald forest in western Berlin, is one of the city’s most fascinating photo locations — a place where history, nature, and urban decay meet. Built on the rubble of post-war Berlin, this man-made hill offers one of the most striking panoramic views over the city, especially at sunrise or sunset, when the skyline glows in soft pastel light and the forest below turns golden.

At its summit stands the old Cold War listening station, a relic of espionage and tension. The massive radar domes, covered in colorful graffiti, create an eerie yet captivating atmosphere that draws photographers, urban explorers, and history enthusiasts alike. Inside, the echoes of the past mix with the wind that hums through the torn fabric of the domes — a haunting reminder of Berlin’s divided history.

Today, Teufelsberg combines nature’s quiet resilience with the creative pulse of street art and the allure of abandonment. Whether you’re after dramatic cityscapes, moody textures, or the unique charm of a “lost place,” Teufelsberg captures the essence of Berlin: layered, unpredictable, and endlessly inspiring.

On our way from Inari (Finnland Lapland) to Olderfjord (Norway Lapland) we saw this strong polarlight (aurora) just 10 minutes after we passed the border from Finnland to Norway.

I photographed this beautiful transition from the golden to the blue hour in May 2018. I stood on the Elsenbrücke and looked towards the city center to the Oberbaumbrücke.
